Embark on a half-day trip to Pushkin from Saint Petersburg and delve into a world of luxury, eccentricities and history. Explore the striking Catherine Palace and its famous Amber Room.
Pushkin and Catherine Palace Half-Day Trip
Having met in the central Palace Square, the tour sets off southwards, to the picturesque town of Pushkin, located only 24km from St Petersburg.
Established as an Imperial residence, Pushkin is home to the magnificent Catherine Palace, a complex of various buildings and gardens which was used as a summer residence by the Romanov dynasty.
Marvel at the ostentatious architecture and decoration of this landmark as you visit the various halls and rooms. Even though the palace was completely sacked by the German troops during World War II and the beautiful amber panels of the Amber Room have never been found, the palace is well worth visiting, as it has been completely reconstructed.
One of the highlights of this day trip is the majestic Amber Room. This luxurious chamber was decorated with breathtaking baseboards and furniture made of amber and gold leaf. The room was rebuilt just like it had been before the war; with mirrors, rococo furniture, carvings and gemstones. Discover the various theories about the Amber Room during your tour: Was the room burn during the Second World War? Or is it buried underneath this castle?
To finish, you can enjoy time off to walk in the beautifully-kept gardens and feel like a Tsar.
After exploring the Catherine Palace and learning about its fascinating history, the tour heads back to the centre of St. Petersburg.
